First Day of School

Well on Friday it was here! A6's much anticipated first day of school. In Germany, because all the new entrants start on the same day of the year, it is a BIG deal!! There are many traditions, but the biggest one for the kids is their "Schultute" or School Goodey Cone. It is this big cone, that is filled by the family with special "school things" as well as sweets etc. So they are given them in the morning before they go to school, they take them to school, go to their new classroom, and then bring them home again - unopened - to be opened at home (or in our case, as soon as we leave the school grounds!!).

A6 was sooooo excited. She was to be at school at 11am and every 15 minutes after S9 left for school (about 8am) she was following me around asking if it was "time to go yet"!!

After school (she finished at 12:00), A6 got to choose somewhere to have lunch. On S9's first day at her new school, she chose the Turkish place. But not A6! That is waaay too healthy! She was off the the Bäckerei (bakery), her eyes gleaming with delight at the thought that she could choose whatever she wanted!!! So of course (after having steered her to the filled rolls first), she chose . . . Fanta!! Mmmmm. She was too full of all the lollies in her Tute to want anything sweet!! That was a surprise!.
But she had a great day and still comes home and tells me "I love school mummy!!" And guess what - on her first day of school, she was in her classroom for about 45 minutes and . . . she was given HOMEWORK!!! Go figure!

Kate I cannot get over how tall she is! Far out, that german diet must be doing great stuff for her! Grant said she was almost the size of Sam. How wonderful for her to be finally at school, even for the brief time it is. Why on earth did they lump those cones to school, then return them unopened? What? Is that just another way of driving the parents mad with their weird rules? Go the Germans!

Hey Fab - yeah we call A our "big little girl" and S our "little big girl". A is always shooting past S a bit and then S catches up!! SO at the mo' they ar again the exact same size! Weird huh!

That cone idea is FABULOUSO mate, I think it rocks... but I dont get why they have to cart it all the way to school and home again before they can open??

Oh just saw Fab Feather said the same thing.. but it's truly weird, German's are a differnt mind set altogether aye.

Love the colour of the cone, and the pictures look glam. All the best for school A6 xx
