In the USA

I am in lovely Massachussets in Fall (autumn for all you kiwis :)). The trees are all turning red and orange and it is beautiful. But you know - these pale into significance compared with the weird things I have noticed/experienced:
  • I can understand the conversations of people behind me in the queue
  • Painted jib board walls
  • Square stopped walls/ceilings
  • Backyards
  • A pet cat
  • TV in English
  • Brass round door knobs
  • Garages with internal access
  • Automatic door openers
  • Two cars
  • Mini wheats
  • Milk in plastic bottles
Isn't it strange that what you took for granted in your own culture, suddenly becomes a surprise, or at least something you actually notice when you have been living in another culture.

I found that too, when I went back home to NZ last year in April! A small taster of reverse culture shock :P I hope you get the chance to really enjoy yourself there!

Love that... could understand conversations that people were having in front of you! Yip, weird to just all of a sudden have ears to hear huh! It's a good sign x

Yip and reading labels on packet food is easy, rather than buying something hoping you understood what the outside wrapper said!
